Shellen and Wanqi

Hey Mates,

Been quite sometime since I posted an entry. Anyway, this will be a short one too until maybe next week or so where we go for our outing this weekend. I'll be back in about 10 days time and the Vietnam gang will be back next Friday. Hopefully, will be able to catch up with my MP which is already in Week 2 now... kinda vexing that both major subject crashed at the same time for me.

Another 2 of my coursemate, Shellen and Wanqi came over on Monday for their OSIP. They were lucky that their Australian visas were not delayed like mine and got to come here early. They will be here at University of Queenland till Feb 20th 2009, spending 4 major holidays in Australia. They are supervised under a different Professor and doing on different projects involving PHP, Adobe Flex, and Adobe AIR.

Hey peeps!

We're coming to the end of the OSIP attachment. 3 months really did fly by quickly. Anyway, just a quick update on the happenings here. Bernard (our supervisor) took us to Langkawi for a vacation. We were all excited on the crystal clear green sea and white sandy beach. However, the weather was against us and all it did was pour. But anyway, we did have fun battling the waves, and burrying one another in the sand.

so anyway, we battled the waves like i said and headed off to dinner. Oh, we brought 2 underwater cameras so we did take many photos but they're yet to be developed. I'll upload them as soon as possible.

So second day came and we headed off to ride the cable car. BUT weather decided to be against us again and it poured. So the cable car station wasn't functioning. We found a place to ride / feed elephants. Obviously the latter is cheaper so thats what we did.



And after feeding the elephant, we headed off and found rabbits and deers feeding station!

So anyway, we got back to Penang and it was MunYee's birthday! We took her to a restaurant called TGIF and celebrated her birthday there. Here's a short video of her birthday celebration compiled with pictures.




And so the week went on and our housemate, Joyce decided to bring home a little kitty. She's been staying with us for almost two weeks and boy has she grown. She's really cute. Here're some photos of her.







Ah wells, that should be the end of the post. Looking forward to going back for good. All in all, I'd say its a good experience these past 3 months and the 6 of us has surely grown in many ways. Next to come, MAJOR PROJECT!

Life in Penang second entry...

Hey... Have not been visiting to this blog recently... I was busy on getting quite a number of resources and doing some research to prepare myself for Major Project... Yup...

Ok... It has been 2 months in Penang doing our OSIP (Oversea Student Internship Program, did i get it right? :P)... Work load else, we are managing quite well somehow... Of course we do have our ups and downs during this period of time... But we did learn quite a number of things when we helped each others on our individual works sometimes... Sharing is caring... :)

Just wanna show you guys a couple of corporate websites done by Yong Han and Edmund from the Distributed Multimedia option... MilleGlasses (http://www.milleglasses.com) and ERP (http://www.iripcd.com/erp/index.html)... Cool right? You can go to google and search Milleglasses and it is right there! Hehe... This need some kind of 'tricks'...

There are more websites that we have done... But still not upload yet... We also did some Flash Promotional/Presentation CD for some of our company's services and products... Too bad cant show you guys as it is coporate stuff... Yup...

K lahz... Enough of work stuff... Now come to a MORE interesting topic... We learnt to make full use of the local public bus transport and travelled to Queensbay Mall for shopping! Hehehe... The public transport system here is not as good as in Singapore as most of the locals here own at least one to two transport vehicles... So there is no point to have a good public transport system here...

Anyway... here we are... In Queensbay Mall, we did shoppings... Like clothings, toys, accessories, magazines, and other stuff... Some of us also went to Salon for a hair cut, medicure and we had dinner and watch movies together! Movie tickets here is 10RM on Sunday!!! Yoohoo... Muahahahaha... And i got myself a quite rare Super-Deformed Gundam model kit and C-3PO Mighty Muggs for my friend...

I think after staying oversea for awhile, we are able to adapt to the lifestyle quite well... Looking after each other, getting daily necessities, explore the place around and learning to be more independent... We even made our very own 'Music Video'... Hahaha... Yeah... K lahz... Better off to sleep soon... Do stay tune for next week on Alastair's blog entry... Cause we will be going to have a great time next week! Hehehe... Till next time!

The UQ Lakeside walk

Well, just pop by to update abit of my life here in Australia. Went for a walk yesterday and decided to walk along the lakeside behind my office. Been here about 2 weeks already but till now haben really explore the University. So the lake shall be the first area to explore.... Took some photos with my handphone as I did not bring my camera with me.

Anyways, life here has been great so far. Get to meet people internationally and made friends with some of them. At the place where I stayed, I got to know students from Germany, Sweden, Japan, Taiwan, China, Saudi Arabia, Fuji, Australia, and also some from Singapore. It's quite cosy here as we all gathered around to chit chat during meals and also go shopping or sightseeing together. In the office where I was attached to, most of the researchers and pHD students come from China. The working life here is not as hectic as Singapore, most of you should know most shops in Australia closes by 6pm. Same goes for my working hours, 9.30am to 4.30pm.... kinda relax. Even the buses and trains here takes about 30mins - 1hour to arrive during off peak timing.

Well, one thing I don't like about here though is mostly everything is expensive, especially the INTERNET. It's not free and doesn't come unlimited.... lucky my UQ account has free and unlimited access ;).

A different light

Hey guys, I'm here in Australia finally for my OSIP. Beautiful country, cool weather (Min 11 Max 23), nice people. This is my first time exploring a foreign country without any guides, therefore was kinda nervous at first. Luckily, there wasn't any language barrier expect for the austAfter settling down and exploring nearby malls around my accommodation, headed straight of the University of Queensland. Ok, being 1 hour early saved me from being late after getiing lost in the University (Seriously very huge campus! 3 to 4 times bigger than NUS or NTU). After Spenting half hour getting lost, found the building that I need to report for induction, headed to the cafe open for my lunch (Why cafe? Hmm, cos everywhere are cafes and no canteens, unlike Singapore).

After induction (Got Access Card, Library Card, Room Key, Transport Card, and settle some admin stuffs), spent sometime in my given office space to mingle around with the other 2 students in the room (Lu from China and Mandy from Malaysia). Around 4pm, started to head back to get some stuffs as the shops in Australia closes around 5pm to 6pm (Sunsets early). As my lodge accommodates many international students, it is no surprise that there are some other Singaporean students along with students from Finland, China, Japan, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, and some Australians from other states, mingled around as usual around the dinner table while eating.

Alrite, thats DAY 1 in Australia!! Sightseeing on DAY 2 as my supervisor is not around till DAY 3. Was surprised to see this in the city...

It's so fun exploring without tour guides. Great scenaries and weather! But oh wells, work starts tomorrow... ;( but but GOLD COAST this weekend, Yeah!

Haha... some must be thinking why am I harping on SIP/ IP/ OSIP/ MP ... coz it is one of the most important phase in poly life. I saw my student 2 days ago at Eastpoint, he's attached to one of the bigger companies, for a moment, I was afraid he would turn up late for work like he did for lessons (tho not always la). But he gave me "thumbs up" ... and looking at how smartly he's dressed, i think he's really grown throughout the 2 years here. *grin

Anyways, I managed to get Shawn's pics at MIT... "he was the chosen one" to represent IMI due to the wonderful 3D work he did. I WANNA GO TOO!!!!

Hey guys, been long since I last posted an entry here. Sorry, was kinda occupied with various stuffs here and there.

Anyway, congrats to you Ms. Jean for getting hitched! I wonder when will it be their turn for the remaining ladies (Erm, you know who you are) in the IMI Teaching team, haha!

Okay, to add on to Ms. Natasha's previous post about internship, I'm here to give my views on Overseas Internship. As some of you may know, overseas internship is optional. Choosing an overseas internship might be a hard choice at first as there were many factors involved. Worries about being alone out there without friends, expenses, or even missing your loved ones back home as the attachment usually lasts about 4 months. But instead of worrying about the present, think about the future. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity that will open many doors along the way. You will meet new people and expand your circle of friends, learn to be dependent, know their culture and share ours with them, and gain valuable experiences through this period.

I will be sharing my experience here in this blog when I leave for Australia for my Overseas Internship sometime late July. I think same goes with Alastair and Raymond who will be going to Penang and also 2 of our classmates who will be going to Vietnam. Will try to post some photos here for sharing too!

Oh, not to forget, Alastair has done a great job by posting photos of our recent Ipoh Adventure Trip and Japan Study Trip at our IMI Noticeboard. It is located at Block 3 Level 5 outside the labs, do take a look!
