Hey Guys! Wanqi and Shellen here. We've been asked to help update the IMI blog by Alastair and Alvin ages ago, but we got too wrapped up with our activities over here that we only got round to doing it now. *Grins*

Anyway, 18th Feb, our last day of work in UQ. It has been a busy day for us here, since we had a meeting and presentation of what we have been working on in the morning, and another meeting with the school clerk about administrative matters later in the afternoon. For those of the people who may know us, Shellen and I have been here for close to four months now, and both of us have been assigned to work on individual projects. Below is a brief description of our projects:

Shellen – [AirBiff]

The project, AirBiff, aims to promote awareness among people around us by enabling to send and receive information about each others' current activity. The concept of designing and evaluation of the AirBiff system allows users to freely create, share and use a variety of activity indicators (biff application) to create awareness to people.

Currently, one of the biggest problems which AnyBiff (Version 1 built by Markus Rittenbruch) faced was to support distributed groups to develop for multiple platforms such as Windows, Macintosh. The deliverables for this project will be building the application using Adobe Air and Flash Actionscript 3. The Adobe AIR platform provides a way to develop cross-platform applications which simplifies the process of developing collaborative tools that can be used in real-world settings.

Wanqi – [UQ Equipment Booking System]

During my stay here, I have been working on re-writing the equipment booking system that students have been using to book equipments for the various school projects. In the beginning months, I have spent much of my time doing research and also gathering user requirements for the new system. To achieve this, Dr Viller helped me in arranging meetings and interviews with the students and staff, and has also held many meetings to brain storm about how the system can be made as efficient and user friendly as possible. Besides conducting interviews, I have also done up class diagrams and the site structure to help me better understand how the entire site would work and link together.

In the process of developing my application, I have incorporated the use of Spry data, PHP, Javascript and CSS to achieve some interactive features such as live! Search. Ultimately, the main aim of my project is to allow for students to book equipment easily and conveniently, while enabling the admin office staff to retrieve the equipment in the easiest way possible as well.

This is our supervisor, Dr Stephen Viller. He was the one guiding us through the duration of our projects, and encourgaed us to do a lot of research and understand the concept of the projects, what users wanted before jumping to programming.

We also had another working partner called Andew Dekker, who was our go-to-guy when we needed help with programming.

Besides working at the UQ five days a week, we have also planned various outings here during the weekend, which usually takes us to activities like hiking up mountains, theme parks, a little shopping here and there, and group outings to beaches and overnight camps out in the nature. While here, we also made many friends from all around the world, etc, Sweden, Germany, China, Taiwan, Peru, Fiji, Sri Lanka, Australia, and to our very surprise, Singapore. It was great as we managed to forge a close bond through our 4 month stay here, and had many memories together which we would take with us as we move on with life.

Shellen and I would also be extending our stay here for a week to travel to Tasmania for a 6 day outdoor adventure trip. We will be going with Robin – our friend from Germany – and two other girls. Our stay here in Aussie will end on the 26th of February, where we would be flying back home to Merlion City.

A timely post when i read the tag board asking about job prospects and uni advancement. I just brought a bunch of year 3s to NUS - school of computing. Apparently, a couple of our units would be exempted... woo hoo...

I asked some students where they would like to go, the answers varies coz our course is rather diversified thus opening a number of doors when the folks graduate. Closely related to our course would be NUS, NTU, SMU - computing.

In NUS (School of computing) alone, there are various specialisation into gaming, 3D and/or interactivity. In NTU, there's the School of Art Design and Media.

Some of our students are checking out LaSalle College of the Arts and NAFA because they wanted to do more graphics (but of course the programming fundamentals they got from IMI would be a valuable asset to them).
Hey!

Time really flies, so fast that i still cant believe im in my second year already. Whoo.

Tp Open House has come and gone, and so has the JAE admission. For those who chose IMI as your first choice, GREAT! Im sure you wont regret your choice! =) For those who did not, it's still ok but you're gonna miss out on a lot of fun. haha. Tp Open House has come and gone, and so has the JAE admission. I was happy to be part of this time's JAE, where i went down to help the lecturers giving out information regarding IMI, alongside Benneth and Randford. I would say its rather new to me, talking to the people (and their mum's) about IMI, and I must say I did enjoy myself somehow (there were some good looking girls there ^^ ).

JAE counselling- Benneth helping students make an informed decision
Zul and Sarah looking thorough the IMI brochure ...

Now that JAE's over, all thats left is to wait for the results to come out. Hope you guys manage to get your first choice. =)

Yes.. .i want to be at IIT - IMI :)

Ever wondered...
Who exactly was the first guy who looked at a cow and said: "Im gonna squeezze those pink dangling thingy and drink whatever comes out of it."

Hey guys! Back to blog an entry... Been really busy with final year project and other commitments... Anyway, to you folks, whom are waiting for O level result and interested in interesting courses, do come down to TP and pay a visit to our Open House and find out more about the courses available to you all...

And of course, if you are visiting this blog, most likely you're interested in our course too! And i'm sure you guys will have some questions in mind... Don't worry! Our lecturers and students will be there to answer your doubts and share their IMI experiences in TP! Yup...

If you're interested in 3D animation, here are some of my simple 3D stuff tat i have did over the past 2 years with IMI... Yup... Do enjoy and hope to see you enrol into our course this year! Too bad i will be graduate once you guys are in... :P

The long awaited update by me... in the midst of my pile of markings... *excuses excuses excuses

Anyway, i'll let the pics do the talking :)

Our prata outing, sans Alvin who was still in Brisbane then. Owe you one, Al.

Well, not too long ago, our students were involved in a photoshoot for Adobe, even 2 of our lecturers were involved, only my backview was involved :(

Worldskills 2008

This is a grand-scale competition every two years that we push our students to participate. After months and months of training, 3 of them - Daniel, Kaye and Amalina went to the Singapore Finals.

Then... we received news one morning that Amalina is the winner!!! Yay, representing Singapore in the Web Design category. Director says WorldSkills is equivalent to the Olympics...

So she will jet off to Calgary, Canada next year to compete amongst the other countries' champions.

A yummy dinner treat by the director to thank the trainers and the students for their effort, Andrew, Sankara, Rick and i also had a little part to play... tee-hee.

Ok, then moving on to TP Rawkz. It was a great success; from the feedback of the sec-school leavers, IIT school was the best, in terms of our enthusiasm, spirit and projects (of course!)

IIT Rawkz man...

Here are some projects we showcased for our diploma IMI. We tried to push the boundaries of interactivity... we don't even have to use the mouse anymore... we can use our hand and body gestures to interact.

Here is JC, our SIG president, quizzing the rawkers about IMI and giving out prizes after they played our very own F1-racing game created by our students.

After TP Rawkz, we held an immersion course for interested students so that they would understand more about our course, learn to create animation in Flash and stand a chance to win an iPod Touch... Woohoo...
The workshop was conducted by the students. They are just too great :)
Animation + Immersion = Animmersion

The class spirit ... either lend your voice or strength, everyone plays a part to help their class stand up to their (friendly) opponent.

After weeks of block teaching, it was presentation time...
hooray for them but I now got to do the markings...

Always a time for work, and a time for play...
